Thigh lift surgery
Thigh lift surgery removes excess skin from the upper part of the inside of the thighs. This plastic surgery results in a noticeable improvement in the quality and firmness of the skin of the thighs.
The sagging of the skin of the thighs comes from two main causes: progressive ageing or significant weight loss. When diagnosing, the surgeon takes account of the morphology of the thighs, particularly the importance of the excess fat, the quality of the skin and the muscle tone.
Plasty of the thighs is often combined with liposculpture of the entire thigh (inside and saddlebag) and knees in order to fully reshape the upper part of the leg.
How the procedure works
The thigh lift surgery procedure is done under general anaesthetic, with 1 night in the clinic and lasts about 2 hours.
Thigh lift surgery takes place in two phases :
Phase 1: Lipoaspiration of the thighs
All the excess fat in the inner thighs is removed. Only the excess skin which has not retracted after the liposuction is then removed.
Phase 2: Removing the excess skin
There are two incision techniques for thigh lift surgery depending on the importance of the sagging skin.
- Moderate excess skin: There is a horizontal scar near the groin that extends to the crease under the buttocks. This scar is completely concealed inside the underwear.
- Significant excess skin: There is a T-shaped scar, which combines the horizontal scar with a vertical scar which is more or less long, made on the inside of the thigh.
At the end of the procedure, the surgeon sutures then applies a dressing.
After the procedure
The pain is minor and is mostly limited to mild tightness. The bandage is removed the day after the procedure. There are bruises and oedema for 2 to 3 weeks. The patient must wear compression pants day and night for 1 month.
The sutures are removed after 15 days. The patient can return to work after 7 to 10 days and play sports again after 2 months. The alteration in the sensitivity of the thighs which sometimes occurs disappears after a few months.
The results of this lift are visible immediately and become final after 3 months. The upper thighs are made thinner and reshaped with firmer skin.
Plasty, however, will not reduce the amount of cellulite. The patient will have to use Thermage, a technique used to compress the collagen fibres and restore elasticity to the dermis in order to make the dimples disappear.
