The "hair implant" unit

In terms of hair implant techniques, 65% of them are performed on the hair and 35% on the beard and eyebrows. They represent more than 50 procedures in the Clinic each month. In addition to surgery, we also offer hair beauty and health treatments.

The "Hair" operating room

The hair department provides latest generation technical facilities which are rigorously disinfected.

It consists of :

  • Three hair operating rooms, three rest rooms and two treatment rooms.
  • Five surgeons specialising in hair transplants and eight technical assistants for cutting and preparing the grafts.
  • An anaesthetist is always present at the clinic.

For those who wish, there is the possibility of a VIP service with a high-end meal and the provision of a private and comfortable room.

Hair implant techniques

The surgeon chooses the most appropriate hair transplant technique depending on the indication to be treated: alleviating baldness, obtaining a handsome beard or reshaping thick eyebrows.

Restoring density Correction Finishing
  • Treating moderate to severe baldness.
  • Correcting premature baldness.
  • Moving the front hair line.
  • Alopecia at the temples caused by plaits and weaving.
  • Eyebrow reconstruction.
  • Making a beard or moustache more luxuriant.
  • Hiding a scar caused by a facelift or burn.
  • Improving the results of a procedure carried out with an old technique.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) hair implantation

The hair implantation technique known as "test strip" first appeared in the early 80s. The FUT hair transplant procedure was a real revolution in the field of hair surgery. Previously we collected and reimplanted hairs in groups of twenty to thirty with circular punches of three to five millimetres.

There are two major drawbacks :

  • The sampled area was full of visible rounded scars under the hair.
  • The implanted used to have a very unnatural "doll hair" or "leek field" appearance.

A FUT hair implant involves making an incision in the neck to remove a strip of hair, from which grafts of one to two hairs for the front hair line or three to four hairs for the top of the head will be selected under a microscope.

Two benefits ensure the success of the FUT hair implantation method among patients :

  • It makes it possible to cover a large area on the head in a single session.
  • It is still the only technique possible for people who have curly hair.

The only drawback to FUT is that there remains a thin scar which needs to have hair of a length of one to two centimetres to make it undetectable.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant

The FUE hair transplant is the second major revolution in hair surgery. It improves the sampling technique for the follicular units using an even finer punch of one millimetre in diameter. This fully manual extraction system preserves the stem cells located beneath the hair bulb and above all, leaves only tiny scars, which are completely invisible to the naked eye and allow the person to have short hair.

Yet with the FUE hair implant technique, the sampling time is much longer than with the test strip method and the number of grafts per session is lower, although it is constantly improving.

The FUE hair transplant method deals not only with moderate baldness but is also suitable for very meticulous work such as beard transplants or eyebrow implants.

It is also possible to use automated FUE with the Robogreffe, which is good for saving time.

The patient pathway in hair surgery

From the consultation with the surgeon to the postoperative follow-up, you are monitored by a medical assistant.

The consultation

Medical assistantA medical assistant takes you through the various hair implant techniques. Then the surgeon sees you in a consultation for further examination. He will ask you about the circumstances of the onset of your baldness, your family and personal history, if you have been taking any medication for a long time, about your stressful or enjoyable living conditions, about whether you abuse tobacco or alcohol, etc.

The practitioner notes the importance of the alopecia, its distribution and looks for any infections that could be contraindications to the hair implantation such as diabetes, severe infections or cardiovascular diseases. He palpates the scalp to assess its flexibility and elasticity and to evaluate the percentage of hair present both in the frontal area and the vertex or the intermediate area. The hair density of the donor area follows the same preoccupation.

He takes photographs of the face, both profiles and the back area to serve as a comparison once the operation has been completed.

Before the procedure

You have a blood test. The faxes the laboratory analysis results to the Clinic for them to be analysed by the surgeon.

If you are having a FUT transplant, let your hair grow for a whole month. If you are having a FUE transplant, make sure that you shave the donor area the day before.

Avoid taking aspirin for seven days before the procedure.

We recommend that you eat lightly and avoid all stimulants, whether it be coffee or alcohol, so as not to cause abnormal bleeding.

During the procedure

You put a sterile gown on. Throughout the hair transplant you can watch TV, use your laptop, read, consult your mobile phone, etc.

The surgeon uses a local anaesthetic according to a protocol that allows you to feel no pain and resume your daily activities quickly.

If you are having FUT, you sit in a comfortable position during the graft sampling. If you are having FUE, you lie down to allow the sampling of follicular units on each side of the Hippocratic crown.

You will be given a snack while the assistants cut the grafts.

After this break, you move to a sitting position and the surgeon begins to introduce the transplanted bulbs.

At the end of the operation, you sit in a rest cubicle for a short while. The surgeon gives you postoperative instructions (treatment rhythms and then shampoos) and gives you a prescription for painkillers.

After the procedure

It is advisable to wear a loose shirt buttoned at the front so as not to catch the grafts when you get undressed.

You don't need to be accompanied if you're going home by taxi, metro, bus, train or plane. If you're arriving by car, you must ask a friend or family member to drive as it is not advisable to drive again on the same day.

For a few days, you take medications to prevent the onset of an oedema reaction of the scalp at the forehead, as well as painkillers in case of mild pain.

You can go back to work on the next day, even though it is more comfortable to take one or two days off.

If you have had a hair implant with the strip technique (FUT), you remove the sutures on the 8th day.

You come in for a check-up visit in the sixth month for the final result.

Hair care products

In addition to surgery, we also offer a hair diagnosis which provides treatments to improve the beauty and health of your hair.

Integrall® « All in One »

Integrall® is the only hair product in the world to contain phyto-androzyme®, a plant molecule taken from magnolia, which regulates the action of the 5-alpha reductase enzyme which causes hair loss.

Integrall® is applied during clinical treatment or used on a daily basis at home in a lotion. It slows down hair loss and improves the regrowth of grafts following hair implant surgery.

It also has a fortifying, anti-dandruff and styling action.

LED laser

LED lasers produce cold light radiation which reduces the active seborrhoea responsible for greasy hair and slow down hair loss by improving follicle stimulation.

PRP injections

Platelet rich plasma injections (PRP) will have a dual beneficial action :

  • An increased chance of graft survival by improving the exchange of oxygen between the follicular unit and the implanted area.
  • A regeneration of the donor area following the reactivation of the stem cells that the hair bulb produce.
