PRP injections for the hair
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) contains active growth factor ingredients that stimulate hair growth by acting directly on the hair follicle's stem cells.
PRP injections into the scalp help slow down hair loss and stimulate regrowth.
This technique is used to treat :
- Temporary hair loss (seasonal changes, hormonal changes, alopecia, etc.).
- Balding (frontal line, temple hair line, diffuse alopecia).
- Scalp disorders (dandruff, irritation).
But the action of platelet rich plasma is also very valuable during a hair transplant to optimise the regrowth of the grafts.
How the session works
PRP injections are carried out under a local anaesthetic in a sterile unit. This technique can only be performed in a clinic and not in a simple medical practice.
A nurse takes a sample of the patient's blood, then she makes a centrifuge to separate the various blood components and recover the platelet rich plasma (PRP).
PRP is a product from the patient's own body. It is therefore 100% biocompatible and there is no risk of allergy or rejection.
Hair PRP in hair care
The plasma enriched with platelets is injected into the scalp with a fine needle.
The platelets are living cells which will recreate living tissue wherever they are injected. They contain growth factors which "wake up" the stem cells of the hair follicles and encourage them to produce a new hair.
The treatment involves three sessions one month apart. Then you have to have one or two maintenance sessions.
The treatment lasts about thirty minutes.
Hair PRP in hair surgery
The grafts taken from the neck are placed in a storage bath of physiological saline solution and PRP. The survival of a follicular unit depends on its ability to exchange oxygen with the area in which it is located until the advent of a real vascularisation of the graft. The platelet rich plasma facilitates this exchange of oxygen, makes the graft more resistant and increases the chances of the micrograft's success.
The PRP injections also reactivate the hair stem cells from the donor area which can then be used again several times. They also help to accelerate the healing of the scar on the neck (test strip technique) and the micro-slits made for sampling (Fue technique) or implant the follicular units.
A moderate inflammatory reaction with oedema and redness is possible for a few hours after the session. The patient can return to work and social activities immediately.
- After the first session, the hair already has a shinier and silkier appearance and is thicker to the touch.
- After the second session, there is a marked decrease in hair loss.
- After the third session, you can see the regrowth of hair.
To enhance the results of the PRP injections, we perform a LED laser treatment for the hair between each session of injections.
